Description of international debit and credit cards.
Use of international payment cards is becoming more and more widespread - also in Denmark. In Denmark credit cards MasterCard and Visa and debit cards Visa Electron and Maestro are issued. The debit cards are particularly popular with younger people below 18 years of age, who are not yet old enough to get a Dankort or credit card.
Advantages of international payment cards
- They attract more customers and increase your turnover.
- The average spend on a credit card is up to 70% higher than with cash purchases.
- Your customers are more susceptible to impulse buying - this may be due to the credit available on their credit cards.
- Young people not old enough to get a Dankort are able to use their debit card.
- Transactions can be made in both Danish and foreign currency.
- Option of 3D secure payments.
- Strengthens the image of your business.

3D secure gives increased security
In order to increase the security in the ever increasing e-commerce, VISA and MasterCard have together introduced a 3D secure security standard entitled Verified by Visa and MasterCard SecureCode. This means that payment is completed in the same way, regardless of whether you use your Visa or MasterCard. 3D-secure makes e-commerce more secure for both the cardholder and the e-commerce site.
The increased security consists of, once the customer has entered their card details, the customer also confirming their 3D-secure password. The password is set up by the cardholder the first time they pay by 3D-secure.
